The NZRFG was formed to support the Government’s vision of introducing ultra-fast fibre broadband to New Zealand.
The objective of the group is to provide a structure for regionally owned and managed network companies to deliver national wholesale, fibre-based access services to retailers and service providers on a flexible, neutral, and equivalent basis, recognising the benefits of local investment but national interoperability to both urban and rural areas.
The group is made up of 19 regionally based electricity lines and fibre companies, whose collective wisdom will ensure a highly successful regional approach to the Government’s desire for a nationwide ultra-fast fibre broadband network.
The group will focus on, among other things, the definition of technical, operational, end-to-end service delivery and commercial standards and collaboration models.
To assist this process the NZRFG has appointed global broadband providers, Ericsson and Cisco as technology partners to ensure a common operating platform.
Membership spans most of New Zealand ensuring extensive broadband coverage.
As well as a collective submission to the Government on its Broadband Investment Initiative, several members of the New Zealand Regional Fibre Group have also submitted individually.
